Presentation

We cordially invite you to the 1st European-Latin American Meeting on Healthcare Simulation and Patient Safety - SESAM-ALASIC Winter Scientific Retreat (according to the European Comission’s 2nd Health Programme) - to be held in Coimbra, Portugal, 12-14 November 2009.

Our main goal for this conference is to support simulation and improve patient safety by linking European and Latin American simulation centers. This will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience and consequently achieve qualitative progression. In order to overcome language challenges presentations will be translated into Spanish, Portuguese and English.

Seize this opportunity to meet experts from all parts of the world, to get to know your colleagues from other countries, to meet old friends and discuss science, develop new ideas while at the same time enjoying the magnificent Portuguese culture.

We look forward to welcoming you to Coimbra in November!

The scientific program consists of both plenary and panel presentations as well as workshops and roundtables in order to support and encourage the use of simulation in health care for the purpose of basic education, advanced training and research.

We are inviting submissions on all topics related to the use of simulation in health care, including:

  • Simulation concepts in different settings, for target groups and in different medical areas
  • Technical and conceptual simulation and simulator development
  • Simulation, Patient Safety and Crisis Resource Management today
  • Teamwork with existing and changing teams
  • Evidence base for simulation training effects
  • Conducting simulation-based research
  • Curriculum Design and implementation for voluntary and compulsory programs
  • Assessment and simulation: courses and participants
  • Cooperation in simulation - Portugal, Spain and Latin American countries

In the pre-conference program, the EuSim group offers a Basic Simulation Instructor Course to be held on 9-11 November 2009 (Course language is English).

Who should attend?

The program contents will be aimed at physicians, nurses, paramedics, other health care professionals, as well as educators and technology specialists involved in medical simulation. We approach healthcare simulation in all areas, focusing especially on: Anesthesiology, Obstetrics , Pediatrics , Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine.
